Widely regarded as a spiritual source of healing and inspiration, dolphins encourage us to slow down and appreciate the beauty around us.

The Moonbeach dolphins have become more and more frequent and friendly often visiting daily with up to 30 in a pod. Sometimes they come close to the shore, other times further out, which is best appreciated either by board, boat, pedalo or snorkeling kit (the staff will also run boat trips when ever possible). You are pretty sure to see them at some point in your holiday.
 The Moonbeach Dolphins
We are usually visited by pods of bottlenose and common dolphins from the delphinidae family, and occasionally a group of 3 or 4 porpoises, which always come right up to the shore.

Bottlenose dolphins have a black back with a white belly. The head is bulbous and the beak is well-defined. They grow to lengths of 3 to 4m in length and have a distinctive, hooked dorsal fin. Colouring varies from dark blue to brown-grey fading into lighter grey flanks with a light pink/white underside and some species are spotted /mottled. They are extremely playful in nature and love performing aerobatic displays.

Common dolphins measure up to 2 metres in length and have a long narrow beak. Their Back and dorsal fin are either black or dark brown as well as the flippers and flukes. Underside white or cream-colored. Dark streak from lower jaw to flipper. Eyes surrounded by black ring that extends to the beak. Most distinctive feature is the "hourglass" pattern across the side. It divides the top and bottom colours. Dolphins are fast swimmers, cruising at around 11km/ hour but reaching speeds of 50km/hr or more…so you wont run them over with your windsurfer!
