WINDSURFING - Wind Stats (more)
Will I get wind on my holiday?

The average of 10 years wind data shows that even in winter there are often months of 70-80% of days above a force F4+ and on average the wind reliably provides at least 50 -60% of days with these planning conditions.

In summer (May to Oct) frequently there will be 85-100% of days above a force F4+ in a month, with an average over the 8 years of no less than 76%. You can expect a force F5+ or more at least 50% of the time and often between 60 and 80% of days.

Our Wind Promise – It’s more than just a gust!
These wind statistics are recorded and confirmed at the end of each day from staff and guest opinions on the day's sailing, so they are not an exaggerated version of events. There has to have been a minimum of 2 hours blasting at that wind force for a valid recording, although normally the winds hold a consistent strength all day, particularly through the summer months.

Storm Calendar
An interesting find in one of the travel guides was this Storm Calendar, stating exact named and dated weather patterns that are reputed to be accurate enough in the North, that desert work time tables are actually set by them. We thought this a little hard to believe until some expats working in the desert verified this. What an uncanny thought to be able to schedule your windsurfing holiday in such a way! In Moonbeach however it is not so accurate. Fortunately we don’t get the rain, and unfortunately not always the wind strength or length of duration predicted. But there is quite a remarkable correlation between a distinct change in the weather pattern at Moonbeach and the dates given if the 1-2 day leeway suggested is taken into account, (which is typically Egyptian, where everything and everybody is always late and "5 minutes" means anything from half an hour to sometime in the future....maybe!)

The dates given for the storms apply to Alexandria. For Cairo and further South, add 1-2 days. The ‘rain’ is sure in Alexandria, probable or possible further south.
