Moonbeach in Egypt is one of those very special windsurfing places that really gets under your skin. Yoga has been around for the last 5 millennia, but of late it has been getting a lot of press. Famous names such as Sting, Madonna and Geri Halliwell are bringing it into the limelight…Now even our gurus and gods of the windsurfing world are professing the benefits of it, including Francisco Goya recently proclaiming ways in which it significantly aids him in pulling off those insane moves...

Moonbeach - Windsurfing Heaven

“What would be the ideal overseas windsurfing destination? You’d obviously want warm water, blue skies and regular, reliable winds that blow all day – summer AND winter. Hows about flat water on the inside and fun sized rolling swells out back? You’d either want your equipment rigged up on the beach or hire kit ready to go. It would be nice to have top-notch British windsurfing instructors around, who can teach any RYA levels or just offer a few tips on gibing. And no crowds – just you and the other clients! Is there anywhere like that?

"The stars are fading rapidly now, only Venus is still brightly visible to our east...my horse cautiously picks it's way down the stony slope. ..we crest the last rise and silently absorb the phenomenal, awe-inspiring spectacle before us, as the first rays of light blaze forth from the horizon to illuminate the Pyramids…
"Adding to the enjoyment of our visit to the Pyramids was the knowledge that just a few hours later that day we would be windsurfing in the most consistently windy Red Sea resort we’ve discovered so far…"

Windsurf around the world: Experts pick the top spots to ride the breeze ‘Moonbeach, Egypt. What’s the attraction?

On the west coast of Sinai, Moonbeach is the most isolated of the Red Sea windsurfing destinations. The bay funnels the wind in, making this an outstanding all year-round destinations, with flat water close to the shore and swells further out. Reliably windy (force 4-8) it's best between April and October.

What the experts say: "Moonbeach is suitable for every level of sailor and is absolutely perfect for intermediates, especially since the windsurfing centre on the beach is run by helpful Brits. After windsurfing all day, you can just relax at night - it's incredibly peaceful. Because you are a long way north you can also visit the pyramids"
