Yoga can be whatever you need it to be.

Yoga has both physical and spiritual aspects to it and for those new to the concept it is important to know that you can just practice the physical aspects if you wish (check out BOARDS magazine article) - you can get into it at whatever level suits you. Classes range from being very physically and aerobically demanding to much more chilled and relaxing or integrating such techniques as meditation.

Benefiting your fitness, flexibility, balance and health - both physically and mentally, yoga also helps to improve your windsurfing and kitesurfing.

Yoga’s origins are in an ancient spiritual practice with many different interpretations being handed down from original 5000-year-old Vedas manuscripts. It developed as a way to merge dualities such as the mind and body, strength and flexibility, yin and yang – using the physical body to get in touch with other non-physical aspects.

Yoga is a series of poses, positions and moves essentially developing balance, flexibility, control and breathing, with the ability to integrate the mind, body and breath. It is about the interdependence and potential of the body - what it can do and how you can use it in different ways. All the moves centre on the core body strength – the trunk area of the body where stomach muscles, the lower diaphragm and lower back all come into play. It develops the kind of inner controlled strength demonstrated by gymnasts and dancers.

There are several different styles of yoga ranging from a gentle Hatha style to the more dynamic Astanga power yoga – which will have even the toughest beefcake groaning at the seams.

The benefits are many no matter your age or fitness. You feel incredibly energised, more flexible and able, free in mind and body.
